I have decided reluctantly to give my candid thought on the ongoing unnecessary and avoidable national embarrassment in the name of minimum wage debacle between the President and the organized labour.
It is safe to conclude that this is not the best of times for anybody to become the President of this very complex and multi-dimensional ethnicity drunk nation.
If you make me President by default or political accident I will decline such monumental poison.
It goes without saying that the country is in the miasma of a cross road right now.
Everything that could go wrong had already done so with active participation of wrongheaded Nigerians.
As it were, Nigeria is situated in the bottom of the valley crying for help from citizens who have no modicum of nationalism and statesmanship in them.
Everywhere you go, you would be confronted with Nigerians who are doing everything negative to pull the name of the country to the mud and opprobrium.
We have bandits, Boko Haram elements,kidnappers,oil thieves,fake drugs importers and distributors,ritualists, ghost workers, Shylock market women and men,
Corrupt political and public office holders, corrupt religious leaders and randy lecturers and rampaging Fulani herdsmen and women, abi initio.
These are the kind of Nigerians competing for space in this country today.
Only a mad man would want to be a President in today’s Nigeria with citizens who are scandalously corrupt and unnationalistic by nature.
Viewed against this background, therefore,what was President thinking about when he was shouting emi lo kan upon and down.
Now that he got the political power what is he gonna do with it?
The ongoing minimum wage saga and the attendant nationwide strike would serve as his first litmus test as a Nigeria’s President.
If he wants to be remembered for good in the history of this country,he should be careful with the way he handles this living wage debacle in the land.
If he is not careful this ongoing nationwide strikes would define his presidency and may lead to his ignominious exit from office.
I will like to bring to his notice that 99 percent of Nigerians are not happy with his administration and are not smiling at all.
His administration have parpaurised everyone in the country today.
He should quickly retrace his steps and revisit his decision on fuel subsidy removal if he wants to survive the mass anger of Nigerians against his administration.
Unless he wants to use his head to break the proverbial coconut he should return the fuel subsidy regime in the country.
And swallow the humble pie.
I’m not claiming to be an economist, but I’m smart enough to understand that the problem with the fuel subsidy regime lies with the fake and fraudulent oil marketers and fuel importers.
The subsidy policy is a necessary evil in the present day Nigeria.
Now that the organized labour have brought politics into the mix of minimum wage demand, there would be plenty and persistent margarine for this administration in the days ahead.
I’m sorry if I’m sounding like a doomsday prophet like one primate Ayodele.
But that is what an ordinary man with the right kinda of political history would come up with at a time like this.
In conclusion, therefore,I will like to advice Mr.President to personally invite the leaders of the NLC and TUC to Aso Rock for a down to earth sincere negotiations over the vexed minimum wage saga if he wants to sleep with his 2 eyes closed.
A word is enough for the wise.
I can see a gathering storm over this issues of minimum wage and the galloping costs of living in the country that looks like a growing nightmare for everyone, including my humble self,who is a federal pensioner.
My monthly pension can no longer pay for my medication, not to talk of other financial commitments and responsibilities.
Mr. President I hope you get to see this message from a concerned good citizen.
May God help you.
