The Federal government has invited members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to an emergency meeting in a bid to stop the ongoing indefinite strike by Organized Labour.
The meeting will include the National Salaries Wages and Income Commission.
Our correspondent reports that the labour commenced indefinite strike on Monday (June 3) to press home its demand for N494,000 minimum wage for the Nigeria workers.
To actualise their aim, many unions shut their workplaces to comply with the directive of the two labour unions.
Our correspondent notices that Lokoja, the kogi State capital and other places in the state have thrown into darkness as the staff of AEDC in the state joined the strike.
Reports from other states of the federation indicate similar negative development.
Public and private institutions, such as hospitals, critical to public health as well and banks of crucial importance to the economic life of the people, stopped working on Monday in Lokoja and parts of the state due to the strike.
While the labour sticks to its gun, that it will not accept any minimum wage less than N494,000 for the Nigerian workers,the federal government says it can only pay N60,000, hence the tripite meeting between the two parties went on deadlock.
Some members of the society in Lokoja who spoke with The Reporters on the issue,urged the labour and the government to consider the biting effects of the strike on the people and reach comprise with a viewing to stopping the strike.
According to them, the strike has added more pains to their social and economic life .
