(Ilorin)

An ambulance driver in Kwara state has lost his job and the COVID-19 team querried, on account of mishandling a COVID-19 coronavirus case.

The Governor of the state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who ordered the sack, also queried the personnel for evacuating the victim without following safety protocol.

Duaglobalnews gathered that the misconduct of the COVID-19 by the driver and the team’s failure to apply caution and expertise in handling the situation was recorded in a video footage that had gone viral on the social media.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, in a statement in Ilorin said his boss was not pleased at such development, hence his reaction .

According to Ajakaye, the said driver evacuated the COVID-19 patient with the help of the public without safety protocols.

The governor also directed the issuance of queries to top officials of the State Ministry of Health.

The governor condemned in strong term, the shoddy handling of the patient who was clearly going through a hard time during the period.

“He directed the immediate sack of the driver when investigation revealed that he failed to heed clear directive not to take any action until the Rapid Response Team (RRT) arrived a scene,”he said.

The governor, Ajakaye added, wondered why the driver evacuated the suspected patient with the help of members of the public without waiting for the arrival of the RRT.

Abdulrazaq was also said to have directed that members of the RRT be queried and other steps be taken to forestall a repeat of such incident.

The governor was quoted as saying that,”Involving just anybody in the evacuation of a suspected case, as seen in the footage, was a clear and dangerous violation of COVID-19 safety protocols.”

Abdulrazaq, who described the incident as avoidable, apologised to the suspected patient and the residents for the embarrassing development, assuring them that such would not happen again.
