The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Motorcycle Transport Association,Lokoja Local Governmen branch, has called off its Lokoja Local Government Chairmanship election amid Coronavirus pandemic.
The election, scheduled to take place May 2,2020, was postponed indefinitely according to the electoral body.
Comrade John Daniel, Secretary- General of the union, disclosed the postponement in a release he made available to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.
He stated that the election was postponed, ”in view of the state government directive on social distancing and to avoid mass gathering as part of the guidelines toward containment of Covid -19.”
The secretary-general said that the association received a letter from Deputy Commissioner of Police,( operations) Police Command in Kogi State advising the electoral committee to suspend the election, in compliance with the Federal government directive on the Coronavirus pandemic.
Duaglobalnews recallsIt that on the April 30,2020, a meeting was held with the leadership of the association, security agencies and the SSA Security to the Governor,Muhammad Danasabe Muhammad, over the planned chairmanship election
At the meeting,it was agreed that the election be postponed until further notice, due to the covid-19 pandemic rampaging the country.
The meeting also resolved that the status-quo be maintained with Comrade Gimba Ibrahim as the chairman of the union, Lokoja Local Government branch, pending when a new Chairman will emerge.
