The Principal, Baptist High School, Lokoja, Kogi State, north central Nigeria, Mrs Victoria Olaleye, has advised parents, especially those whose children attend the school, to assist them to pass their examination, in a honest way and flying colours.
The principal, who gave the advice on Friday at the hall of the school while holding meeting with parents of SSS 111 students of the school, decried the situation where some parents burdened their children of secondary school age with too much house activities, thus depriving them the opportunity to concentrate in reading for examination.
She expressed concern that because some children were burdened with too much chores, by their parents, they usually resort to dubious means to pass examination.
This, she said, include patronizing “miracle centres” anong others where cheating in an write examination had become the norm.
According to her,products of “miracle centres, though usually parade “good results” but got them through cheating,adding that they often cannot defence in higher institution.
According to her, some parents also developed “I don’t care attitude” towards their children subscribing to all manners of information on the internet, a development she said lured the students into examination malpractice.
She called on parents to deprive students the use of cell phone or strictly monitor the content of information these students access on the internet.
Olayemi added that experience had shown that many of information students access in the internet usually preoccupy their attention,not in tune with their studies and such,remain detriment of their educational ambition.
She recalled that some students who secured admission into University with results obtained from “miracle centres” could not cope with their studies and had to withdraw.
Mrs.Olaleye,however, expressed the resolve of the school to continue to produce students that would be able defend their examination results anywhere in the world.
” No student in our school,who study, conscientiously and remain committed to the course of achieving success with not pass his or her examination with flying colours.
“This is because the school has adequate and quality teachers ready to offer their expertise to help students acquire quality education and excel in their examination.
In their reaction, the parents commended the school for producing quality students, most of who they noted, were blazing trail in higher institutions, adding that those had gone through with their educational pursuits had been contributing positively towards the development of Nigeria.
They, however, called on the teachers to increase their commitment in producing more students that would the pride of not only kogi state, but also Nigeria and the world at large.
