The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has felicitated with the Muslim faithful as they begin the 30-day Ramadan fast on Friday, ,assuring them and other Nigerians of safety on road, especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.
In a release signed by the Corps Public Education Officer of the corps, Bisi Kazeem, in Abuja, Oyeyemi advised Muslims to embark on this year’s Ramadan fast with solemn mind, considering its coincidence with the period when coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the world.
The Corps Marshal thanked the Almighty Allah for sparing the lives of many people to witness yet another Ramadan fast of deep spiritual exercise, which he noted called for sober reflection and recommitment to safety ideals during and after the holy month.
According to him, the pandemic has made it even most imperative that Muslims, especially those engaging,in the spiritual exercise,do so with greater consciousness and prayers
According to him, such becomes necessary,for God’s intervention in eradicating the virus and providing relief to mankind.
Oyeyemi further assured road users of the corps’ continued effort of ensuring safer road environment for all through collaboration with relevant security agencies, particularly in enforcing the stay at home orders.
The efforts, FRSC boss, would go along way said to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the Corps, coupled with the need for people to adhere strictly to the directives on the lockdown.
He reiterated his call for people to wash their hands regularly and observe the social distancing rules, to deal with the spread of the infectious disease.
Oyeyemi reassured that FRSC personnel in the Presidential orders, on restriction of movement in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States and elsewhere, would continue to be orderly, civil and professional in the discharge of their duty, to ensure stay at home order and a secure environment.
Oyeyemi, however,admonished all motorists to show special consideration to other road users, in the spirit of the Ramadan fast and in order to create a peaceful atmosphere for all during the period and beyond.
He wished all happy and safe Ramadan fast, reminding members of the public on the need to always call the FRSC call centre through the toll free line: 122, to report any emergencies.
Duaglobalnews recalls that Saudi Arabia sighted the moon on Thursday evening signalling the commencement of Ramadan fast, one of the five pillars of Islam, on Friday.
