Kogi state government says it has initiated an academic programme via radio, for some categories of students now on compulsory holiday due to Coronavrus pandemic, ravaging Nigeria and other parts of the world.
The programme which is an intervention one will start as from April 16, aimed at bridging the gap of the period created by COVID-19 in the academic calendar of the students.
Duaglobalnews recalls that closed all secondary and tertiary schools ( private and public) about a month ago to check the spread of Coronavrus to the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology. Mr Wemi Jones, disclosed the new radio programme while addressing journalists in his office in lokoja.
According to him, the radio programme will be for Basic and secondary education with specific emphasis on students in JSS 3 and SSS3 classes.
He said the idea was also to help the students concerned to prepare for the forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE and West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination(WASCE)/ NECO respectively.
The commissioner also told the journalists that the ministry was exploring other convenient e-learning measures to reach out to all levels of education in the state while the Coronavrus pandemic last.
He urged parents to ensure their wards seize the opportunity offered by the programme, to update their knowledge for their forthcoming examinations, to attain the desired success.
The commissioner commended the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for the laudable intervention
“Details of the radio lessons, which will run from Monday -Saturday, will be air on Radio Kogi, Confluence FM 94.1,”he said.
