As the global community fights back at the ravaging pandemic Coronavirus with a view to containing its spread globally, an NGO, “Waives of Success Foundation” has distributed food items, medical consumables and sanitizers worth N15 million to communities in Kogi.
Mr Ocholi Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, disclosed this during its Kogi East Senatorial District outreach for distribution of the palliatives at one of the venues, Stephen Achema Handball Stadium, on Saturday in Idah.
Yusuf, who had earlier in the week donated N1 million to the State Government, to support the COVID-19 efforts said communities in Ofu, Igalamela-Odolu, Ibaji and Idah Local Government Areas benefitted from the gesture.
He said that the Foundation was out not only to help prevent spread of the virus but also to reduce the hardship occasioned by the partial lockdown in the state.
The CEO also said that the NGO which started with the distribution of one million pieces of plastic sanitizers a fortnight ago, had distributed bags of rice, washing basins, hand gloves as well as face masks, worth N10 million.
Yusuf said that about N5 million cash was also doled out along with the items as palliatives to the benefitting indigent members of the communities at various designated centres in Ugwolawo, Ofu LGA; Ajaka, Igalamela-Odolu, Ejule-Ojebe in Ibaji and Stephen Achema Handball Court in Idah.
“This trying period, occasioned by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, demands the cooperation of all and sundry especially the well-to-do individuals and organisations to compliment government efforts aimed at containing the deadly disease,”he said.
Yusuf assured that the Foundation would not relent in its humanitarian commitment to the less privileged in the society as it had vawed to continue to identity with the needy as the situation prevailed.
Responding, the Onu Uje of Uje, Ibaji, Chief John Egwemi, who is also the Chairman, Ibaji Traditional Council, commended the CEO for his philanthropy.
The monsrch,who describing him as a worthy son of Igalaland who should be given higher responsibility, urged him not to be discouraged.
Yusuf was earlier at the Palaces of the Eje of Ofu, Chief James Abalaka; Eje and Etemahi Igalamela, Chief Abel Etuh and Achadu Attah, Chief Ekele Peter Achema in Idah to pay traditional homage and also distributed items and cash to the people in the areas.
Speaking on behalf of Kogi Government during the event, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yahaya Bello on Security in charge of Ofu Local Government Area, Amodu Ibrahim, also lauded the Foundation for its assistance to the people.
He promised that the benefitting local governments would not relent their sensitisation and financial support to the people,ensure that the Coronavirus pandemic is brought to its kneels in all the rural communities in the zone and the state at large.
