Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello inaugurating the Headquarters of HYPPADEC in Minna.
For smooth take-off of its operations, Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has inaugurated its headquarters and distributed 12 Toyota Hilux for smooth take off of its operations across member states’ offices.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa during the inauguration, said HYPPADEC with its headquarters in Minna, Niger state capital, received 50 per cent monthly ecological funds from the six benefitting states and 10 per cent from power generating company’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Renovation of the headquarters, located opposite IBB Pen House, Chanchaga, Minna and as well a new structure behind the main edifice cost a sum of, N303 million while the vehicles for its take-off were assembled in Nigeria to ensure local contents as bided for.
Sadiq Yelwa further told guests at the commissioning that operations of HYPPADEC wouls soon be expanded across the nine benefiting states from the present six states, including; Kaduna, Gombe and Taraba states.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Commission’s Governing Council, Hon. Joseph Terfa Ityav, commended President Muhammad Buhari and the National Assembly for ensuring that HYPPADEC not only come into being on paper, but a practical reality.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state, who attended the event, said the establishment of HYPADEC had brought succour to communities suffering from perennial ecological impact of flooding due to electricity generating dam creation.
The Governor, however, challenged the pioneer management of HYPPADEC to do more towards stimulating economic growth and also imbibed maintenance culture for all its facilities through robust monitoring and judicious use of available resources.
