The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has issued two weeks ultimatum to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, to resolve the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university-based unions.
The President gave the directive on Tuesday in Abuja after receiving briefings from the relevant government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) involved in the ongoing efforts to end the face-off with the university unions.
The Reporters recalls that ASUU members commenced their strike on February 14, 2022.
They were followed by Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Educational Institutions (NASU) National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
The Reporters gathered that some of the demands of ASUU include: revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution for payment of university lecturers among others.
