Suspected kidnappers abduct widow in kogi, demand N10m ransom

Suspected kidnappers resurfaced on Saturday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital,abducted a middle aged widow,demanding N10 million ransom from her family before she could regain her freedom.

A family source, who would not want her identity disclosed for security reason,told our correspondent in Lokoja on Sunday that the woman, identified as Sefi Jimoh,was kidnapped in the morning of Saturday.

The source further disclosed that the kidnapped victim was on the road waiting for a commercial motorcycle, popularly called “Okada”,from Mountain Fire and Miracles Church, on phase 2 road to Workers’ Village, located on zone 8 road, where he went for morning prayer when the kidnappers struck and whisked her into unknown destination.

According to the source,the lady is an environmental officer with the Kogi State Governnent,discribing her as the bread winner of the family, having lost her husband some years ago.

The kidnappers were said to have called the children of their victim and told them that their mother was with them, adding they would only have her back on account of payment of N10 million ransom

Contacted on phone by The Reporters on Sunday,the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state,SP William Ovye Aya, told our correspondent that he was yet to be briefed of the incident.

He promised to get back to our Correspondent as soon as the command gets details of the incident from its relevant officers.

About four hours later, he called our Correspondent, saying that when he called on the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) in charge of the area mentioned, the DPO told him that the issue had not been reported to him as at the time of this report at 3 p.m.

Our Correspondent reports that there had been lull in kidnapping activities in the state for quite some months the latest episode, due to increased security measures by the state government and security agencies,hunters, Vigilante group as well as security awareness by members of the public in the state.
