One of the five members of a family involved in Wednesday evening explosion that occurred at a joint in Kabba, Kogi state, Miss Funke Matthew-Ibeteye, 25, gave up the ghost in one of the Abuja Hospitals on Friday, bringing the total of death resulting from the tragedy to two.
Our Correspondent gathered that the deceased, whose 75-old father, Chief Mathew Ibiteye, was a worker at the beer parlour which was affected by the explosion by unidentified attackers in Kabbah town of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi.
Her employer who owns the beer parlour, Mr Ladi Olorunfemi, disclosed this to the media on Friday, saying that Funke couldn’t make it in the hospital where she was rushed to for treatment.
According to him, Matthew-Ibeteye was badly wounded in the explosion and was rushed to Abuja for medication.
“Unfortunately for her, she couldn’t make it and died this early morning. When we got the news, we were devastated.“She was a very humble and hard-working girl. Her death came as a shock to us.
“As I speak with you, we are at the cemetery for her burial in Kabba. We are going to miss her.
“It’s very unfortunate and painful that we lost her at this time. The most painful thing about the attack on my business premise is that, five of her family members were affected, including the father, Chief Mathew Ibeteye.
“On Thursday, we buried one of the victims by name Aisha Ibrahim from Okene,” he lamented.
Also, commenting on the sad development,the father of the deceased, Mathew, 75, described his daughter’s death as “very sudden and painful”.
“As you can see,I am not strong, having been a victim of the blast too. I have to leave the hospital bed to prepare for my daughter’s burial when the news came to me.
“We are going to miss her warm love, embrace and support to the family at this critical time of life.
“Only God can revenge those who planted the bomb that exploded and killed my daughter and left me and three of her siblings injured, ” the father said.
On Thursday, one Aisha Ibrahim, a 37-year old victim of the explosion, was buried in Kabbah.
The explosion has generated controversy between the police and the victims with victims linking the event to bomb explosion while the police Command in the state called it a gas explosion based on its investigation.
