Foremost educationist harps on unity of old students for alma mater’s development

A foremost educationist and the first principal of Gss Afon in Kwara state,Chief Solomon Aboyeji, has stressed the need for old students of secondary schools, especially those of the school,to continue to cherish the importance and imbibe the spirit of unity of purpose to enable them effectively pay back to their alma mater.

In a statement he issued in Ilorin on Sunday, Chief Aboyeji; while reacting to preparation being made by the old students of Gss Afon toward marking the 45th anniversary of their alma mater, commended them for remembering the school for good

He expressed delight over the unity of purpose and love among the old students of the school,a development he noted had been the propelling force gearing them towards throwing their resources to achieve a befitting anniversary,come March 11,12 and 13.2022 in Ilorin and Afon.

Chief Aboyeji said:”I salute you all, your grit , your fortitude,your spirit of concern, class competition and determined determination to form a oneness among yourselves, a spirit of committed unity to get work done, to bless yourselves and bless your alma mater, GSS AFON.
We each come to this world.

“We will each go out of this world.
The in_ between defines who we truly are. Your determination to bind yourselves together, to create sources of joy and happiness for one another.to help , encourage and spur one another to awake ,arise and shine.

” That, indeed,is the greatest legacy you are printing in the heart of one another, the legacy of love , of concern. Of unifying organization and of lifing one another’s spirit up through connecting with one another with excellent human relationship. You are forging ahead handsomely.

“I doff my hat for all your committees, your leadership, and excellent unbeatable spirit that is in each one of you, a spirit which when cconvinced,unchangeable.Please go on to achieve deligently till the end.

” Many eyes are now set looking at you. You have now become the cynosure of very many eyes. History is waiting.Happy new month the month of fate and of giant strides. Happy New time, the time of good success and of solid achievement.”

Our Correspondent reports that all hands on deck, by the old students, to give back to their alma mater,not only in a bid to organise a grand breaking anniversary but also armed with various programmes to boost educatuon and physical infrastructure of the school.

The Reporters recalls that Gss Afon was established by the regime of Maj.-Gen.George Agbazika Innih on September 3,1976 in Asa Local Governnent Area of Kwara state.

Our Correspondent reports that the school has produced many prominent Nigerians who are making meaningful impact in the social, economic, political, scientific and techonological development of Nigeria while others are also blazing trail in various fields of human calling outside the shores of the country.

The online publication further gathered that one of the projects to be commissioned during the anniversary is the giant transmitter,facilitated by one of the old students of the school who convinced one of his highly placed friends to donate the equipment to boost electricity in the school.

Prior to the planned anniversary, the 84 set of the old students constructed a mini gate for the educational institution.

Other projects by the old students include the repair of the school borehole, repair of examination hall and clearing of the bushes around the school and among others.

Another old student of the school, a legal luminary, has booked 10 rooms at the Kwara hotel as well as a hall for the guests expected at the occasion.

Yet another old student,a top brass in the bmilitary,has volunteered to take up and pay for the cost of providing security for the school,agreed to renovate Physics Laboratory and equip it to boost the study of science subjects and donated large sum of money toward the success of the planned anniversary programme.

A reliable source close to the organisers of the event revealed that the renovation of science laboratory of the school, promised by the top military officer, commenced on Sunday.

As at the time of this report, some old students were pledging one or two supports for the physical and educational upliftment of the school while others are pushing at the corridor of power for the state government to include the school among the schools earmarked for massive renovation.

The school produced its first set of graduates in 1981.
