The Vice-Chancellor,University of Ilorin, Prof.Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has expressed delight over the appointment of Prof. Baba Awoye Issa,(52), as acting Medical Director of the newly established Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Budo Egba in kwara state.
The Reporters reports that Professor Issa was the Head,Department of Behavioural Sciences,University of Ilorin before his new assignment.
Prof.Abdulkareem, in a statement signed by the Director, Corporate Affairs of the University in Ilorin, Mr.Kunle Akogun, described the appointment as well deserved,”a round peg in a round hole and and a befitting new year gift to the University community.”
Prof. Abdulkareem,a renowned Professor of Chemical Engineering, also described the new acting Medical Director as a thoroughbred academic, outstanding administrator and virile professional,who distinguished himself in the services of the University and humanity over the years.
Prof. Abdulkareem,who is also the Chairman, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), said Prof. Issa remained an outstanding product of the University who took up teaching appointment at the institution and succeeded and ended as one of the most enterprising staff who gave in their all to the University for more than two decades.
The Vice-Chancellor, who remarked that the University was very proud of Professor Issa, said that the institution was convinced that he would make success of his new assignment by mobilizing human and material resources towards ensuring that the new Hospital achieves its corporate objectives.
The Vice Chancellor,who thanked the Federal Government for the choice of a staff of his University to lay solid foundation for the hospital, however, advised Prof.Issa to draw inspirations from the foresight of the founding fathers of the University of Ilorin.
This he said the new head of the health institution could do by building the hospital into a Centre of Excellence,to attract patients,scholars and researchers from all over Nigeria and beyond and demonstrate his cherished qualities to ensure the success of his assignment.
The Reporters reports that Prof.Issa is a product of many institutions,such as Gss Afon, Asa Local Governnent Area of kwara state and University of Ilorin among others,contributed to many journals in Nigeria and abroad.
