Police in Niger repel armed bandits,recover 3 motorcycles

The Police Command in Niger state says its tactical unit has successfully repelled armed bandits that attempted to attack Wamba community, Mangoro and Bangi villages in Mariga Local Government Area of the state and recovered three abandoned motorcycles.

DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command in the state,who made the disclosure in a statement in Minna on Tuesday, said the bandits, on foot, attempted to attack the villages but their plots were foiled by the unit.

He said:“On the 13th of December, 2021 at about 1030hrs, a group of suspected armed bandits on foot, attempted to attack Wamba village along Kampani-Bobi/Bangi road Mariga Local Government”.

“The Police tactical team deployed to the area mobilized and vehemently repelled the bandits while the hoodlums later re-grouped at about 1300hrs of same date and reinforced on motorcycles to proceed to the same village”.

“However, tactical teams at Mangoro and Bangi villages were immediately mobilized and dispatched to the scene for reinforcement and as a result, the bandits were engaged in a fierce gun duel in which they later escaped into nearby forests with bullet injuries and abandoned three unregistered motorcycles”.

“Effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing armed men.

“Members of the public, especially residents of Wamba and its environs, are advised to report any person(s) found with bullet wounds to the nearest Police station or other security agencies, the statement indicated.

“The Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas, while commending the tactical team for the gallant display of professionalism and courage to achieve the desired objectives,urged the officers not to relent in the ongoing onslaught against banditry and related vices in the state.”
