A traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, the Oriye Barmo in Wamba Local government area of Nasarawa state,Mr Yakubu Sarki, has cried to the state government to rescue his people from the hands of notorious herdsmen preventing attacking and killing done of them at will while on their farms.

Yakubu, who made his feelings known Wednesday, while receiving the Commissioner for Information, Dogo Shamah who had gone to condole him over the brutal murder of one his kinsmen, Samuel Monday, allegedly by suspected Fulani herdsmen

He explained that the 30-year old Samuel was attacked by a Fulani herdsman man whom he said brutalised him to death and took away his motorcycle.

The Oriye Barmo, however, said that youths later mobilized and arrested the suspect and handed him to the police.

“My people can no longer move freely in the land of their birth as they risk being killed by the herdsmen,” He lamented.

The traditional ruler who said he had once fallen victim of the herdsmen brutality, called for urgent step to be taken by state government to save his people from being chased out of their father’s land by these herders

Responding, Shammah condemned the act of brutality meted to the people but urged the youth and members of the community not to take laws into their hands, adding that they should always report people with questionable characters to constituted authority and allow the law to take its course.

Our Correspondent reports that herdsmen/farmers clash belongs to the league of big security problems, apart from the Boko Haram insurgency confronting Nigeria.
