The National Examination Council (NECO) has threatened to “blacklist” any school found to be aiding and abetting examination malpractice in the country,just as it reiterated commitment to ensure zero tolerance for all forms of examination malpractice.
Mr Azeez Sani, Head Information and Public Relations Division of NECO,gave the warning in Minna in a release made available to journalists in Minnan, a copy of which is at the disposal of The Reporters, an online publication on Monday.
He said the warning became necessary, following reports that some schools in Kaduna state encouraged their students to engage in examination malpractice.
Sani said: “There was report from Signature Television station in Kaduna state last Wednesday, 2nd of December, 2020 alerting NECO about some infractions going on in some schools somewhere in Kaduna state.
He said based on the Council’s zero tolerance for any form of examination malpractices, NECO swung, swiftly, into action by flagging the centre where such infraction was suspected by identifying and isolating all the candidates’ scripts for scrutiny”.
According to Sani, as part of measures to end future sharp practices, NECO he has constituted an Administrative Committee to investigate the allegations, to enable NECO take appropriate actions.
“If found culpable, the entire results of the candidates will be cancelled, their school will be derecognized and examination officials involved in the act will be prosecuted in accordance with the Examination Malpractice Decree 33 of 1999,”he added.
He, however, commended the authorities of the station for being patriotic enough by ensuring that the sanctity of public examinations were maintained in private and public schools.
