The gridlock that greeted the commencement of Lokoja-Ganaja road, about two weeks but gave way to free flow of traffic, after several hours resumed on Thursday, The Reporters,a media platform, reports.
Our correspondent, who visited the road nearly an hour after the gridlock reports that assorted vehicles, ranging from articulated, trucks, cars, to tricycles ( kekenapep), motorcycles were seen stand still amidst dust that enveloped the road.
As usual, the closing of one lane to allow reconstruction as well as human factors, particularly impatience of most drivers caused the problem.
However,men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security personnel were seen making frantic efforts to check the conduct of the drivers to arrest the situation as at the time of this report.
However, residents of the 500 unit axis, upto Ganaja round about of the road, in separate interview with our media platform, called on the construction company handling that axis to commence work.
They described the condition of the section of the road as terrible, adding the development had been hampering human and vehicular movement.
Many operators of commercial vehicles and kekenapep told The Reporters that they had been forced to go on “compulsory leave” due to accelerated wear and tear of their vehicles as a result of obiquitous potholes on the road,some of which reminded them of gully erosion.
They, however, commended government for reconstructing the road but urged speedy completion to ease the hardship of motorists plying the road.
Our correspondent, who revisited the road reports, that the gridlock fizzled at about 4.p.m on Thursday,thus, paving way for resumption of free flow of traffic.
