From Ilorin

The timely intervention of security personnel on Friday in Ilorin, capital of Kwara state, saved the palliatives meant for the recent flood victims in Kwara state from being stolen by the hoodlums.

A correspondent of The Reporters, an online publication reports, that trouble started when the criminal elements made attempt to break into Ilorin cargo terminal housing the palliatives during the distrbution.

The online outfit gathered that the hoodlums invaded the venue but were quickly put on check by security personnel who shot into the air and geared the area, thus stopping them from carrying out their illegal mission.

The social media platform recalls that the state government had earlier called the attention of the security agencies in connection to the intelligence reports indicating that some anarchists, backed by partisan interest groups, had plotted to break into the cargo terminal to cart away palliatives.

Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said that government had traced the attack to premeditated efforts to cause total break down of law and order in Kwara State and elsewhere in the country.

He, however, noted that the security agencies were up to the task by containing the arsonists and hoodlums.

Also commenting on the issue, the Commissioner for Communications, Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin, condemned it, describing the action as inexplicable, adding that it did not reflect the good nature of the people of the state.
