As relations and other sympathisers are struggling to come to terms with the reality of tanker explosion in Lokoja, Kogi state,two weeks ago another tanker explosion has happened in Osun state, leaving several people dead.
The Reporters, an online publication, gathered that the multiple accident happened on the Ilesa-Akure Highway, Osun State on Monday while many people were burnt beyond recognition.
The online media further gathered the accident occurred around 11:35 a.m at Erin Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun state, when a diesel-laden tanker spilled its content on the highway, causing explosions which gutted several vehicles.
Eyewitnesses said that the tanker fell while on the move and sebsequently caught fire.
Besides many vehicles that were affected,the accident was also said to have caused gridlock on the road.
However, Federal Road Safety Corps personnel were deployed to the scene with a view to diverting motorists to ply Ipetu Ijesa town as an alternative route, to ease the traffic.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Police Command in Osun State, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the accident but said she could not give the number of casualties yet.
Meanwhile, members of the in Lokoja have called on the Federal and state governments to find lasting solution to tanker explosion in many parts of the country.
Those who spoke with our correspondent, urged the government to construct a separate road for all trucks and articulated vehicles to check such crash on the nation’s highways.
They also called on the government to intensify efforts on road rehabilitation and reconstruction, to make traffic easy.
The people described tanker explosion in the country as one too many.
