The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party to pursue his 2026 re-election bid, declaring that the party’s ideology of welfarism aligns with his administration’s commitment to citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
Our Correspondent reports that Adeleke moved to the Accord Party alongside his Deputy and all political appointees during a political gathering held on Tuesday at the Osun State Government House, Osogbo.
The event marked a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
The National Chairman of Accord, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Secretary, Mrs. Adebukola Ajaja, Oke Rotimi Michael (Ogun State Chairman), as well as other members of the National Working Committee and state chairmen from Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Ekiti, and Oyo were present to formally welcome the governor into the party.
Adeleke’s defection comes just one month and five days after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a prolonged leadership crisis within the party.
His departure adds to the list of PDP governors who recently exited due to internal wrangling, including Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
In his resignation letter dated November 4 and addressed to the PDP Ward 2 Chairman in Ede, Adeleke attributed his exit to the ongoing leadership crisis within the party’s national structure.
He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve as Senator for Osun West and later as Governor under the PDP platform.
The letter was acknowledged the same day by Ward Chairman Kamoudeen Alamu, who confirmed that Adeleke would no longer participate in the party’s governorship primaries despite being cleared as the sole aspirant for 2026.
Speaking through his X handle on Tuesday, Adeleke said his move to Accord Party was aimed at ensuring continuity of good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Osun State.
“Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State.I joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after weeks of consultation. We intend to pursue a second term on this platform to complete ongoing developmental projects and strengthen good governance,”he said.
He added that Accord’s philosophy of welfarism resonates deeply with his administration’s priorities.
“I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. “The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people. We opted for Accord because it aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ welfare.”
Adeleke thanked the national and state leaders of the Accord Party for their support, emphasizing the need for unity ahead of the 2026 elections.
“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for future elections. Accord Party is here to take over Osun governance and continue delivering good governance in our dear state,” he added.
