The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) on Tuesday held a one-day stakeholders’ forum aimed at deepening public understanding of the Nigeria’s Tax Acts 2025.
The event, themed “Understanding Nigeria’s Tax Acts 2025,” brought together government officials, tax experts, and representatives from various sectors to examine the provisions of the new tax legislation signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about six months ago. The Acts are expected to take effect on January 1, 2026.
Speaking at the forum, the Executive Chairman of KGIRS, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, said the initiative was designed to enlighten citizens, businesses, and stakeholders on the implications and benefits of the updated tax laws. He noted that adequate awareness would ensure smooth compliance when the laws become operational.
Also in attendance was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Revenue, Dr. Nazir Ichanyi, who commended KGIRS for providing a platform to educate the public ahead of implementation.
Delivering a presentation on the overview of the Tax Acts, Barr. Dele Suru outlined key structural changes introduced to modernize the nation’s tax system. Another resource person, Mr. Emma Yusuf, spoke extensively on the major provisions of the Acts, stressing the importance of early preparation by taxpayers and institutions.
Participants described the forum as timely and crucial to enhancing tax compliance, transparency, and improved revenue generation for national development.
