The death has been announced of Olusegun Awolowo, a grandson of the late nationalist and statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He was aged 62. His family announced his death on Thursday in a statement expressing deep sorrow and paying tribute to his life and legacy.Hide trimmed content
The statement said, “With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather—Olusegun Awolowo,”
The family described him as “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.”
It praised Awolowo’s lifelong commitment to public service, calling him “a painfully loyal servant to Nigeria” who worked with “vision, integrity, passion and unwavering commitment.”
“He loved his family. He loved his work. He loved his country. And he lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him,” the family added.
The statement noted that while they are “shattered by this loss,” they remain grateful for his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement noted.
The family further announced that condolences would be received at his residence daily from 2pm to 4pm.
