The Member representing Ogori/Magongo State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Bode Ogunmola, has explained that his decision to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by the collective desire of his constituents.
According to Ogunmola, his people want to be part of the political mainstream and align with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration.
He said this made his defection inevitable.
Speaking on the sidelines of a well-attended rally in Lokoja on Monday, which saw thousands of opposition members, including former Governor Idris Wada, move to the APC, Ogunmola said the interest of Ogori/Magongo people would be better served under the ruling party.
The lawmaker, who was elected on the platform of the PDP, stressed that remaining in the opposition would amount to a disservice to his people.
“I took a lot of things into consideration beyond the internal crisis within the PDP. First, my people want me to join the APC to support the good works of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
“Secondly, politics is about interests. Staying in the PDP would negatively affect my people. The reality now is that the PDP can no longer serve our collective interests.
“Thirdly, Governor Ododo is performing excellently across all sectors and has reached out to many in his effort to develop the state. It is only wise for us to support him in building a more viable and prosperous Kogi State,” he stated.
Ogunmola, a former Commissioner for Information and former Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, expressed confidence that the Ododo administration would address the developmental needs of Ogori/Magongo, particularly in infrastructure.
He added,”My move to the APC is not for selfish reasons. It is to amplify the voice of my people. Knowing that power belongs to God, I believe this decision, made after deep reflection, will lead to greater benefits for my constituency under Governor Ododo and the APC.”
