The Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area in Kogi State, Hon. Tosin Olokun, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew across the local government area as part of intensified efforts to tackle rising insecurity.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, his Chief Press Secretary, Olokun added that the decision to enforce the curfew followed recent intelligence reports and ongoing operations to flush out criminal elements operating within border communities and forest zones.

The curfew, which takes immediate effect, will restrict movement from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily and applies to all communities within Yagba West.

According to the Council Chairman, the move because necessary to limit movement during vulnerable hours and enable security agencies to conduct coordinated patrols, surveillance, and clampdown operations without obstruction.

“The safety of our people remains our top priority. This curfew is a proactive step to strengthen ongoing operations and prevent criminal infiltration across our communities,” Olokun stated.

He urged residents to strictly comply with the directive, warning that violators of the curfew or those aiding criminal elements will face severe legal consequences.

Hon. Olokun commended the Joint Task Force, Hunters, Vigilantes, and other security agencies for their renewed efforts in securing the area and assured them of continued support from the council.

He appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest security post, emphasizing that collective vigilance is key to sustaining peace.

Our correspondent reports that kidnappers and other criminal elements have been disturbing the peace in Yagba West in recent times,a situation that prompted Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to visit the area a few days ago, issuing a stern warning to the criminals to desist or face dire consequences.
