Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested two notorious members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate linked to the gruesome murder of 23-year-old Miss Grace Godwin in Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the arrest followed a discreet investigation by the Command’s Scorpion Squad, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye.

According to the statement, on July 12, 2025, the police received a distress call reporting an unconscious young woman discovered by the roadside along Iya Abubakar Street, Life Camp. Responding promptly, operatives evacuated the victim, later identified as Miss Grace Godwin,to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, a fuel-pump attendant, had closed from work on July 11, 2025, and unknowingly boarded a vehicle operated by the criminal gang. During the robbery, she reportedly recognized some of the assailants who were residents of her Dape community.

In a bid to silence her, one of the suspects, 25-year-old Kabiru Abdullahi, allegedly strangled her with a plastic nylon bag after she bit his finger while resisting the attack.

The second suspect, 35-year-old Solomon Tanko, was also arrested, while other members of the gang remain at large. Items recovered from the suspects included a golden-coloured Toyota Camry (popularly known as “Pencil Light”) and plastic nylon bags believed to have been used in committing the crime.

SP Adeh assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, emphasizing the Command’s determination to rid the territory of “one-chance” criminal networks.

Commissioner of Police Dantawaye commended the Scorpion Squad for their professionalism and swift action, condoled with the family of the late Grace Godwin, and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the FCT.
