The Police Command Kogi State on Wednesday, witnessed a change of leadership as CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, officially assumed duty as the 40th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the Police Boss takes over from CP Miller G. Dantawaye,, who has been redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP William Ovye Aya, CP Kankarofi pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor and introduce new strategies aimed at enhancing security, law enforcement, and public trust in the state.
The new Police Commissioner reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening community policing, collaboration with sister security agencies, and fostering peaceful coexistence among residents. He assured the people of Kogi State of his readiness to deploy strategic and intelligence-driven policing methods to combat crime and ensure safety.
“The command under my leadership will prioritize professionalism, discipline, and accountability in service delivery. We will build on existing structures and introduce fresh ideas to make Kogi safer for all,” he stated.
Born in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State, CP Kankarofi brings to Kogi Command a wealth of academic and professional experience spanning over 30 years in the Nigeria Police Force.
He holds a B.Sc. in Economics and Political Science (Combined Honours), a Bachelor of Laws (BL), a Master of Laws (LLM), and is currently pursuing a PhD.
Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, the new Commissioner trained at the prestigious Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
Over the years, he has served in diverse command and operational capacities, including as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Executive Governor of Kwara State (1999–2003), and Squadron Commander in Kano, Bauchi, Rivers, and Anambra States.
He also served as Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of the X-Squad in Kwara and Kano States, Area Commander in Akwa Ibom, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Criminal Investigation, and Administration at various times.
Before his posting to Kogi State, CP Kankarofi was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Zone 1 Headquarters, Kano.
He has also attended several tactical and strategic leadership courses, including the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 46/2024 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
A member of several professional bodies,including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), and the National Institute (mni), CP Kankarofi is widely respected for his commitment to professionalism, integrity, and proactive policing.
CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, an avid reader and traveller, is happily married with children.
