The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been honoured with the prestigious “Community Builder of the Year 2025” award in Brampton, Canada, during the city’s celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Our correspondent gathered that the award, conferred by the Mayor of Brampton, His Lordship Patrick Brown, recognized Governor Ododo’s leadership style anchored on service, inclusivity, and people-driven development.
The colourful ceremony, held on October 1, brought together Nigerians in the diaspora, political leaders, and dignitaries from across North America.
Governor Ododo, represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Arts and Culture, Juwon Olorunnipa (popularly known as Jumabee), was applauded for his commitment to community growth, infrastructural development, and fostering global partnerships.
The honour, which placed Kogi State on the international stage, was described as a symbol of exemplary leadership that resonates beyond Nigeria’s borders.
In addition to the governor’s award, Kogi State also bagged three plaques at the ceremony, reaffirming the state’s growing relevance in national and international discourse.
The Independence Day event in Brampton doubled as a platform for cultural exchange, national pride, and diaspora engagement, making Governor Ododo’s recognition a proud moment for both Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
