The Kogi State Government has commenced registration for the 2025 bursary allowance for indigenes of the state studying in public tertiary institutions across the country.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Wemi Jones, announced the exercise at a press briefing in Lokoja on Monday.
He urged students to take advantage of the improved and transparent registration process, stressing Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to making Kogi a model for educational development in Nigeria.
Jones explained that the initiative, tagged Season Two, is designed to build on the successes of the previous phase.
“His Excellency, Governor Ododo, is determined to ensure that more students benefit from this bursary scheme. We expect the number of beneficiaries this year to surpass last year’s figure, and the funds are already set aside for disbursement,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Hon. Afolabi Joseph-Raji, noted that no fewer than 8,750 students benefited from the maiden phase, where undergraduates received ₦30,000 each while law school students got ₦300,000.
He commended Governor Ododo for revitalizing the bursary process, making it more accessible and student-friendly.
“Unlike last year, when students had to undergo pre-qualification, this year’s registration is straightforward. Applicants only need to visit the portal, create an account, and upload required documents, including admission letters and school ID cards, before completing registration,” he explained.
Joseph-Raji added that although over 44,000 students registered last year, only 11,000 uploaded their documents, and 8,750 eventually qualified. He called on the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) to intensify sensitization so more students would participate this year.
In his remarks, NAKOSS President, Comrade Sunday Adeola, lauded Governor Ododo for sustaining and expanding the bursary initiative, describing it as “legendary and life-touching.” He assured that the association would mobilize widely to ensure students take advantage of the opportunity.
Registration for the 2025 bursary award runs from September 29 to October 31 via the official website: https://scholarshipboard.kogistate.gov.ng. The scheme is expected to ease the financial burden on students and their families while promoting Kogi’s drive toward educational excellence.
