The Vice Chancellor, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Prof. Marietu Tenuche, has commended the Kogi State Government for its sustained support to the institution, describing Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s intervention as “unwavering and transformational.”
Prof. Tenuche noted that since Governor Ododo assumed office, all programmes in the university have secured full accreditation, including the reactivation of the MBBS programme after 12 years of suspension.
She made this known while hosting state government officials who visited the university as part of an ongoing media tour of projects across Kogi State.
The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, and his Works counterpart, Engr. Muhammed Yusuf.
“Since 1999, this university has grown tremendously. We currently run 63 degree programmes and several postgraduate courses. With Governor Ododo’s intervention, our MBBS programme was reactivated after 12 years.
“All required infrastructure was provided, and both the National Universities Commission and the Medical and Dental Council gave approval,” Prof. Tenuche said.
Fanwo assured that the government would continue to support tertiary institutions to drive Governor Ododo’s vision of a united and progressive state.
The media tour also covered key projects, including the 10-kilometre Bagana–Abejukolo township road in Omala Local Government and the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) erosion control projects in Ankpa.
Engr. Yusuf disclosed that substantial progress had been made on the Omala road, with earthworks completed and five kilometres of asphalt already laid on one side of the dual carriageway. He added that work on the remaining stretch would resume in October after the rains, emphasizing that the project would ease transport challenges and improve the movement of farm produce.
On his part, Fanwo explained that the project is part of the 10-kilometre internal road network approved for each of the 21 LGAs of the state.
He stressed that the Ododo administration is committed to fairness, equity, and ensuring that infrastructure development reaches all senatorial districts.
At Ankpa, residents expressed appreciation for the ACReSAL erosion control projects, which have saved homes and farmlands previously devastated by erosion. Vice Chairman of Ankpa LGA, Halimat Imam, and Supervisor for Works, Ibrahim Yahaya, hailed the governor for tackling the long-standing problem.
The team also visited the College of Education, Ankpa, where the Provost, Dr. Femi Fashagba, highlighted improvements in water supply, electricity, and security since Governor Ododo assumed office.
Fanwo, in response, praised the Provost’s leadership and disclosed that the government had also established a skill acquisition centre for students.
“This administration is not only providing infrastructure but also equipping young people with skills to thrive in society. Governor Ododo is uniting Kogi through projects that touch lives,” he stated.
