The Police Command in Kogi State,on Tuesday, confirmed the abduction of the District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area,
Mr. David Wada ,by unidentified gunmen.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.
Ovye-Aya explained that a distress call was received by the Omala Police Division on Monday evening, shortly after the Second-Class traditional ruler, Mr. David Wada, was kidnapped.
According to him, the monarch was ambushed at Ojuwo Ugweche while returning from a traditional council meeting in Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala LGA, and whisked into the bush at gunpoint.
“We responded swiftly to the distress call by mobilising our quick response team, hunters, and vigilantes to comb the area for his rescue. As we speak, security operatives are in the forest tracking the kidnappers with the aim of rescuing him safe and unhurt,” Ovye-Aya stated.
The paramount ruler of Omala LGA, His Royal Highness Onu Ife, Boniface Musa, who also confirmed the incident, appealed to security agencies to ensure the safe release of the district head.
The agency recalls that following fatal bandit attacks and the burning of Bagana, Bagaji, Agojeju Odo, and Ajokpachi Odo communities in 2024, the Federal Government deployed military and other security operatives to the area to restore peace.
As of the time of filing this report, the abductors had yet to contact the victim’s family or make any demands.
