The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has expressed his intention to re-contest an elective position in Kogi State.

Ajaka made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting of the SDP held at the party’s secretariat in Lokoja on Saturday.

He reassured party faithful that the SDP remains united and committed to reclaiming power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

“I will re-contest an elective position in Kogi State. I thank all members of the party for their continuous support.

“There is unity among our leaders and stakeholders, and we will always speak with one voice for the progress of our great party,”Ajaka said.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State chapter of the SDP has dissociated itself from the recent coalition announced by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition groups.

The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Attah, said the decision was reached after wide consultations with local government chairmen and critical stakeholders across the 21 local government areas of the state.

According to him, members of the party took the decision at a meeting attended by their National Leader, Governorship candidate of SDP, Alhaji Murtala Ajaka, and other prominent opposition leaders, including former commissioners in Kogi state, Elder Ali Ajuh and Mr. David Enape, among others.

He said that the party is charting its own strategic path to victory in 2027, adding that it will not be dragged into alliances without proper directives from the National Working Committee (NWC) and other national leaders of the SDP.

He explained that the position of the party is definitely that, no decision can be made on coalitions without the involvement of its national leadership, adding that SDP remain focused on building a strong and independent platform capable of dislodging the APC at all levels in the state.

Also present at the meeting were prominent opposition leaders, including former commissioners in Kogi State, Elder Ali Ajuh and Mr. David Enape, who expressed support for the party’s stand.
