Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, operating from the Forward Operating Base in Babana, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, have foiled an attempted bandit invasion, dealing a decisive blow to the criminals in the early hours of Thursday.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred at about 2:50 a.m. when the armed bandits tried to infiltrate Babana community, soldiers swiftly responded,engaged them in a fierce gun battle with superior firepower, and the assailants were forced to retreat in disarray.
A follow-up operation on the outskirts of the town led to the neutralisation of two bandits whiletems recovered from the bandits include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines loaded with 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 323 rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, and a mobile phone.
The Reporters further gathered that the troops that an officer and a soldier sustained gunshot injuries to their legs, currently receiving treatment and are reported to be responding well.
The Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the resilience and vigilance of his men .
He said,“Our troops have once again shown courage and commitment. We will continue to intensify operations and use all legitimate means to rid the area of criminal elements.”
He assured residents that the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property across Niger State and its environs.
