The Magongo community in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State will on thursday this week, play host to a distinguished academic team from the Department of Linguistics, Federal University Lokoja (FUL).
This is contained in a statement signed by the National President of Magongo Development, Association MDA,Prince Jordan Alaba Akpata and made a copy available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday.
According to him,the team, comprising lecturers and students from the department, will be led by seasoned scholars of linguistics, under the auspices of the Federal University Lokoja.
“They are embarking on a field research project aimed at deepening their academic inquiry, practical exposure, and community-based study of language and culture.
“The visit is scheduled to begin on Thursday this week and will last until Sunday.
“Magongo community, known for its rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality, will serve as the host town for the research exercise.
“The purpose of the project is to strengthen students’ understanding of language in its natural environment, while also fostering mutual learning between the university and the community.
“Through interviews, interactions, and documentation, the students and their lecturers will engage directly with residents of Magongo,” he added .
To make this a success, the National President of the association appealed for the support, cooperation, and hospitality of the people of the community throughout the stay of the researchers.
He emphasized that acts of friendship, goodwill, and open interaction from the host community will go a long way in enriching the project and promoting the town’s cultural heritage.
He expressed optimism that the visit will project Magongo positively in academic circles as a community open to knowledge, partnership, and development.
