The National Pension Commission (PenCom) is set to prosecute 12 employers for persistent failure to remit pension contributions as of the second quarter of 2025, The Nation has learnt.
According to PenCom’s newly released Q2 2025 report, the Commission also recovered a total of ₦1.35 billion from 19 defaulting employers during the period. The sum comprises ₦972.12 million in outstanding pension contributions and ₦381.88 million in penalties.
The report stated that the 12 persistently non-compliant employers had been referred to the Commission’s Legal Department for prosecution, underscoring PenCom’s commitment to protecting pension assets and enforcing compliance with the Pension Reform Act, 2014.
Under its Public Strategic Priorities for the quarter, the Commission noted that enforcement and recovery efforts were intensified through legal actions and expanded engagement of recovery agents.
It added that it also encouraged Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) to diversify investment portfolios by exploring additional investment-grade instruments to reduce over-reliance on Federal Government securities.
Furthermore, PenCom scaled up the Micro Pension Plan through sensitisation campaigns and regulatory incentives aimed at boosting participation, particularly among self-employed individuals and workers in the informal sector.
Meanwhile, retirees under the contributory pension scheme in Lokoja, Kogi State, have vowed to continue their prayers and fasting until their aged-long allowances, captured in the N757 billion approved recently by the Senate, are paid.
Mal. Aminu Salihu and some other retirees concerned,stated this in Lokoja on Thursday in chats with our correspondent.
” I am praying and fasting and trusting Almighty Allah that, sooner than later, the federal government will commence the payment of our allowances to ease financial predicament facing mostly CPS retirees.
” The Debt Management Office,DMO and other stakeholders,charged with the responsibility of paying the allowances, should make haste for the commencement of the exercise and must be transparent,” he urged
