Tension erupted at Kara Market in Iyana Share, Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Tuesday when a joint police and vigilante operation to apprehend a wanted suspect turned deadly, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured.

According to the Police Command in the state, the operation targeted one Bello Doti, a suspect wanted for undisclosed offences.

Officers were said to have sighted him in the market but as they attempted to arrest him, his father, Alhaji Doti, allegedly attacked a vigilante operative with a machete, inflicting deep cuts.

The Police added that the situation escalated rapidly, leading to the shooting of Alhaji Dotin who was later confirmed dead at a medical facility, while the injured vigilante is currently receiving treatment.

In the chaos, the suspect, Bello Doti, escaped a development prompted the police to launch an intensive manhunt to track him.

The Police Public Relations officer for the command,SP. Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, condemned the attack on security personnel, warning that such interference would not be tolerated.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information to help us locate the suspect,” she said.

The Command appealed to residents with useful information to contact the nearest its station or call its emergency lines: 07032069501 or 08125275046 for such useful information.
