A stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Hon. Mohammed Sani, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party, declaring that no amount of political pressure or wave of defections will make him abandon the party.
Sani, who described himself as a committed member of the party for years, made the vow while reacting to the recent spate of defections from the PDP to other political parties across the state in a voice message he sent to the Correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday.
According to him, his decision to remain in the PDP is rooted in his conviction that the party still represents the best platform to advance the interests of the people and deliver good governance.
“I have always believed in the PDP and its ideals, and I remain committed to the cause of rebuilding and strengthening the party, no matter the challenges. Defection has never been an option for me,” he said.
He linked the challenges confronting the PDP to a lack of quality leadership, adding that those at the top of the party’s leadership are not doing the right thing, thereby giving many members reasons to embark on defections.
He heaped the blame for the challenges confronting the PDP on its governors and the National Working Committee membets, expressing concern that while they knew the problems, they refused to rectify them.
“The issue of joining another party is not ideal. The best thing would have been for those dumping the PDP to stay back and right the wrongs for the party to regain its lost glory.
“What happens to these decampees, when they get to another party and discover the same wrongs? Will they leave again?
“I can assure you that the PDP will bounce back and become stronger. It is just a question of time.
“Most of the leaders of the PDP who are leaving have forgotten that the party built them politically,” he said.
The PDP chieftain urged other loyal members to stand firm and resist the lure of political opportunism, stressing that with unity and determination, the party can regain its lost glory in Kogi State and across Nigeria.
He further called on party leaders at all levels to intensify efforts toward reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation, and internal reforms that will make the PDP more competitive ahead of future elections.
