A woman, Hadiza Baffa, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, accusing her biological father, Mr. Musa Bashir, of obstructing justice and colluding with a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mr. Kabiru Turaki, in an ongoing legal battle involving sexual assault allegations.
In the petition titled “Petition Against Mr. Musa Bashir for Obstruction of Justice, Collusion and Defamation”, Baffa appealed to the IGP and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), to launch an immediate probe into her father’s alleged interference.
A certified true copy of the petition, submitted at the Central Mall Collection Office, Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja, was made available to journalists on Wednesday.
“I write this petition with utmost urgency and distress to request an immediate investigation into the actions of Mr. Musa Bashir, who has knowingly interfered in a criminal matter that has caused me immense psychological, emotional and social trauma,” she wrote.
Baffa, a mother of one, claimed that she was a survivor of sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated by Mr. Turaki, who she said lured her under the pretext of offering educational assistance in Abuja. She said she had been estranged from her father for years but decided to inform him about the case, expecting his support.
“Initially, my father expressed outrage when I told him about the assault. However, shockingly, after Mr. Turaki filed a lawsuit against me and my family, my father reconnected with him and began to collaborate against me,” she alleged.
According to the petition, Bashir allegedly interfered in her legal case by retrieving her case file and hiring another lawyer without her knowledge or consent. Baffa further claimed her father entered a secret financial agreement with the ex-minister.
She also accused her father of authoring a defamatory letter falsely claiming he had conducted an investigation that proved her allegations were untrue. The letter, she said, was submitted as evidence in a Zone II Magistrates’ Court but was rejected by the court.
Baffa stated that despite a conclusive DNA test conducted by the Force CID Gender Department in Area 10, Abuja, confirming Mr. Turaki as the biological father of her child, her father continued to support the former minister’s counterclaims and actions.
“He is now using that same discredited letter to initiate a new legal suit against me, further worsening the emotional harm and damage to my reputation,” she said.
She described her father’s alleged actions as a deliberate attempt to derail the legal process, misinform the courts, and frustrate justice through financial and psychological manipulation.
Baffa is urging the IGP and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to summon her father for questioning regarding the alleged “investigation,” as well as to probe the source of the alleged financial agreement with Mr. Turaki.
“I also ask that his actions be examined for potential criminal conspiracy and defamation under Nigerian law. I plead with your offices to uphold the integrity of the police investigation and the DNA results, and to help me obtain justice for myself and my child,” she stated.
She submitted with her petition copies of the allegedly defamatory letter, the DNA test result, and relevant court documents as supporting evidence.
