Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they claimed their 10th continental title after the win over host nation Morocco in Rabat.
This is contained in a statement signed by Ismaila Isah,
Special Adviser on Media to the Governor and sent a copy to The Reporters in Lokoja on Monday.

Governor Ododo described the Falcons’ triumph as “a moment of national pride and a glowing testament to the unyielding spirit of the Nigerian.”

The Governor noted that the Super Falcons, already the most successful team in African women’s football, made history once again by becoming the first team to win the WAFCON trophy ten times.

He commended the resilience and display of bravery by the team in the pulsating final, where they overturned a 2-0 halftime deficit to secure victory in the final.

“This is more than a football victory; it is a story of grit, grace, and greatness of the Nigerian girl and woman. By this victory, the Super Falcons have shown the world that Nigeria’s strength lies not only in our talent but in our fighting spirit. We celebrate this victory with which you have lifted the hopes and spirit of the entire nation”, Governor Ododo said.

The Governor applauded the players for their team spirit and decisive contributions that earned Nigeria the 10th title in the competition.

Governor Ododo also commended the technical team and coaching staff for their leadership throughout the tournament, adding that their success serves as an inspiration to every Nigerian youth, especially girls who dream of rising through sports.

“This victory is symbolic. It affirms that with vision, discipline, and teamwork, even the steepest odds can be overcome,” he noted

The Governor who praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for rallying support for the team also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting youth and women in sports, noting that the achievements of the Super Falcons align with the broader goal of the administration to empower young people through opportunities in sports, education, and innovation.
