Nigerian Super Falcons Beats Host Morocco 3-2 To Emerge 10th Time WAFCON Champion

Nigeria’s Super Falcons has defeated host Morroco to win win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the tenth time.

The match played on Saturday night saw Morocco took an early lead in the 13th minute and extended their lead in 24 minutes.

The Moroccan team was the first to draw the blood with a 2-0 lead before half time which was scored by their captain with a fantastic volley to displace Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The Super Falcons came in to the second half with a different energy and game plan which made them push for a penalty after a Moroccan defender handled the ball in the vital area, Esther Okoronkwo scored the penalty which brought the Falcons back to the game.

Okoronkwo ran down the right flank and found Folashade Ijamilusi, who stabbed home the equaliser from close range.The Super Falcons made another brilliant runs via Esther Okoronkwo who made a brilliant pass that resulted in the equalizer 2-2.

The Moroccans almost had a penalty awarded before the referee resorted to the aid of the VAR. The penalty was canceled With two minutes remaining of regulation time, substitute Jennifer Echegini swept in an Okoronkwo free kick to fetch the Super Falcons unprecedented tenth WAFCON title for the Super Falcons.

Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2024 WAFCON.

Chiamaka Nnadozie was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco finished as the Top Scorer with 5 goals.

Congratulations to Nigerians and Nigeria for the Victory.
