A broad spectrum of society, including retirees, religious leaders, friends, and well-wishers, gathered on Sunday at Gadumo, Lokoja, Kogi State, to celebrate the 65th birthday of Mr. Sylvanus Ali, a retired staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The celebratory gathering reflected Nigeria’s religious diversity, with Christian and Muslim faithful coming together in a rare display of unity to honour one of their own.

In his remarks, Mr. Ali expressed deep gratitude to Almighty God for His protection and blessings over his life and family, especially through a difficult period that began about nine years ago.

“This occasion is very important in my life. I thank God for keeping me alive to witness it, and I pray for His continued guidance as I journey through the rest of life,” Ali said, visibly moved by the show of love. He also thanked guests for honouring his invitation and rejoicing with him.

Speaking at the event, Pastor David Onu of King Liberation Deliverance Ministry, Lokoja, encouraged Nigerians to remain prayerful and thankful to God, regardless of prevailing economic hardships.

“While many complain about the high cost of living, they often forget to thank God for the health and resources that keep them going,” he noted, citing the biblical story of Job as an example of steadfast faith.

On his part, the Imam of Gadumo Mosque, Mallam Suleman, described Mr. Ali as a man who embraces all religions and harbours no bias. He called on religious bigots to emulate the celebrant in order to promote peace and interfaith harmony in Nigeria.

“Ali is a bridge-builder. He has always welcomed everyone, regardless of belief.

“We need more people like him to foster peaceful coexistence in our communities,” the Imam stated, while offering prayers for a brighter future for the celebrant and his family.

Some guests also took turns to pay glowing tributes, describing Mr. Ali as peaceful, easy-going, and a role model to both peers and younger generations.

They urged him to continue living an exemplary life rooted in humility, simplicity, and faith while commenting his wife for contributing to his success in life.
