Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has held two separate private meetings with prominent northern political figures, sparking fresh speculations about early alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Our correspondent reports that,Obi first met with former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, at his residence in Abuja on Friday. Just hours later, he was sighted at the Abuja home of former Kaduna State Governor and SDP stalwart, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for another closed-door meeting.

The back-to-back meetings, though undisclosed in content, come at a time when influential figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are reportedly working behind the scenes to woo Obi back to the party.

Sources say the strategy may involve positioning him as a consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 race.

While none of the parties involved have made official statements regarding the meetings, political observers believe these engagements reflect early strategic consultations that could significantly impact Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Obi, who governed Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, defected from the PDP in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition under the Labour Party in the 2023 general election.
