The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court (FHC), Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, has approved the establishment of a vacation court in the Enugu Judicial Division to ensure uninterrupted access to justice in Nigeria’s South East during the court’s annual vacation,
The approval, which takes effect from Monday, July 28 to Tuesday, September 16, 2025, was announced in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by Dr. Catherine Christopher, Director of Information at the FHC.
According to the statement, the initiative aims to address urgent and sensitive legal matters arising from the South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo during the court’s long vacation.
Justice Tsoho’s decision followed a formal request made by Sir K. Chukwudi Olemeforo, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oji River Branch, in a letter dated June 24, 2025.
“The Honourable Chief Judge approved the request after considering its merit and the pressing need to maintain access to justice across the region
“The vacation court will be presided over by Hon. Justice M. T. Segun-Bello and will sit at the Federal High Court, Enugu.
“The Federal High Court remains committed to the timely delivery of justice and upholding the rule of law, even during judicial recess,” the statement read.in part.
