An educationist, Alhaja Romoke Adedokun, has called on Nigerian youths to steer clear of negative influences that can derail their academic and personal development.

She gave the advice during the 2025 Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony of Adedokun International Schools, held on Friday at the school premises in Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State.

Adedokun, who is the Proprietress of the institution, emphasized that distractions such as peer pressure, deviant behaviour, and lack of focus can have long-term adverse effects on the future of young people.

“Negative influences can expose our youths to crime, violence, and other traumatic experiences that hinder their ability to achieve life goals,” she said.

She urged parents to be proactive in guiding their children both morally and academically, noting that holistic education remains key to raising responsible and successful citizens.

Highlighting the school’s commitment to excellence, Adedokun said that over the past 16 years, Adedokun International Schools had consistently delivered quality education, with notable achievements to show for it.

The school recently won first place in the South-West zone of the Mathematics Face-Off Competition (Higher Primary and Senior Secondary categories) and secured second position in the Sigma Competition in Ogun State, according to her.

She congratulated the 2025 graduating class, urged them to remain focused and disciplined as they move to the next stages of their academic journeys.

“The world is full of opportunities for those who stay determined and upright. Discipline and hard work will always open doors,” she advised.

Also speaking at the event, an education consultant and guest speaker, Dr. Sunday Longe, underscored the importance of instilling strong moral values in children while also investing in their formal education.

Our correspondent reports that that 117 students graduated from the institution: 23 from the nursery section, 39 from the primary school, and 55 from Junior Secondary School 3.
