A swift response by the Kwara State Fire Service on Sunday, averted what could have been a major fire disaster along Muritala Muhammed Way in Ilorin.
Our correspondent reports that the fire, which broke out around 11:30 a.m. opposite the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, threatened a two-storey building comprising eight rooms and ten shops.
The prompt arrival and intervention of fire service personnel, the blaze contained, limiting damage to just one room.
Confirming the incident, the Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commended the quick response of his team and emphasized the importance of electrical safety, especially during periods of erratic power supply.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a power surge. We urge residents to remain vigilant and ensure regular maintenance of electrical appliances to prevent similar occurrences,” he said.
Prince Olumuyiwa reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, noting that public enlightenment on fire prevention remains a top priority.
