Within a space of time after one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Tunde Ogbeha, resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), another major political figure has followed suit in Kogi state.

Hon. El-Shettima Peter Agbogun, a traditional titleholder known as the Kaigama of Lokoja, has officially resigned from the PDP.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward A, Lokoja Local Government, and dated July 12, 2025, Hon. Agbogun cited deep dissatisfaction with recent developments in the party at the ward, local, state, and national levels as the reason for his decision.

“I have been a very loyal and committed member of this party from inception and have also promoted and protected the interest of the PDP in every ramification,” he wrote.

Agbogun highlighted that he had sacrificed his time, energy, resources, and sometimes risked his personal safety, in the service of the party over the years.

He also recalled serving as the political leader of Ward A, which he described as the ward of respected party elders like Senator Tunde Ogbeha, the late Dr. GTN Ajakpo, and Chief James Katugwa.

However, he noted with regret that the recent exit of party stalwarts, including Senator Ogbeha, had prompted him to reconsider his political future.

“It has become necessary for me to chart another political path for myself,” he stated.

While he did not disclose his next political destination, Agbogun expressed gratitude to PDP members and leaders for the opportunity to serve and for the support he enjoyed during his time in the party.

Political gladiators note that Agbogun’s resignation has added to the growing list of high-profile defections from the PDP in Kogi State, signaling a possible shift in the state’s political dynamics ahead of the next election cycle.
