The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has fixed July 16 for the arraignment of three Ghanaians and a Nigerian lawyer, Abu Arome, over allegations of forgery and criminal conspiracy.
Justice Modupe-Osho Adebiyi of Court 18 set the date, following the issuance and service of hearing notices to parties in the case marked CR/402/2025.
Our correspondent reports that Inspector-General of Police has filed a 26-count charge against the defendants, who include:
Sir Sam Jonah, Knight of the British Empire (KBE)
Kojo Mensah Ansah, Managing Director/CEO of Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd
Victor Quainoo
Abu Arome, Nigerian legal practitioner
Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd, as a corporate entity
The case, filed on June 26 by Isa Garba, prosecuting counsel from the Legal and Prosecution Section of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, centers on allegations of forgery of company documents aimed at illegally taking over Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd, Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd, and assuming control of River Park Estate, Abuja.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the accused persons falsified documents, forged signatures, and illegally increased the share capital of the targeted companies, allocating 99 million shares to themselves. They were also alleged to have falsely declared Nigerian citizenship to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to facilitate the alleged fraud.
In Count One, Ansah and Jonah are accused of knowingly providing false information to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, and the Inspector-General of Police through petitions dated January 23 and September 9, 2024.
The petitions accused three individuals,John Townley Johnson, Adeniran Ogunmuyiwa, and Paul Odili,of fraud, land grabbing, and identity theft, despite allegedly knowing the claims were false. This offence is punishable under Section 178 of the Penal Code Law.
In Count 26, all the defendants, acting in concert between January 2010 and January 2025, allegedly trespassed on Plot No. 4, Cadastral Zone E30, Lugbe West,known as River Park Estate,a property said to belong to Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd and Houses BHR for Africa Nigeria Ltd.
They are accused of constructing houses on the land in the name of Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd and claiming ownership.
This offence is contrary to Section 342 and punishable under Section 348 of the Penal Code Law.
Alleged forgery: Court fixes July 16 for arraignment of 3 Ghanaians, lawyer
An High Court of Abuja has fixed July 16 for the arraignment of three Ghanaians and a Nigerian lawyer, Abu Arome, over allegations bordering on forgery.
The date was fixed by Justice Modupe-Osho Adebiyi of Court 18, following the hearing notice that was issued and served on parties in the charge marked: CR/402/2025.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police had filed a 26-count charge against the defendants.
The Ghanaians include Sam Jonah, a Knight of British Empire (KBE); Kojo Ansah and Victor Quainoo.
The I-G, in the charge, also joined a company, Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd, in case.
The charge, dated June 25, was filed on June 26 by Isa Garba, prosecuting counsel, Legal/Prosecution Section, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The accused persons are being prosecuted
over their alleged involvement in the forgery of company documents in a bid to illegally takeover Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd, Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd, as well as assume ownership control of River Park Estate Abuja.
According to police authority, investigations revealed that the accused persons had illegally increased the company’s share capital and allocated 99 million shares to themselves using falsified documents and forged signatures.
They were also alleged to have falsely presented themselves as Nigerian citizens to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to facilitate their alleged fraudulent activities.
Count one alleged that Kojo Mensah Ansah, the MD/CEO of Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd, and Samuel Esson Jonah between January 2010 and January 2025 in Abuja did knowingly give false information to the Commissioner of Police FCT Command and I-G, through a petition dated Jan 23 and Sept. 9, 2024.
The petition was written against John Townley Johnson, Adeniran Ogunmuyiwa and Paul Odili, alleging that “they committed an offence of fraud, land grabbing, identity theft and misled the police officers, which you know or believe it to be false.”
The offence, the prosecution said is punishable under Section 178 of the Penal Code Law.
