The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has donated food items to survivors of the recent flood disaster that claimed 207 lives in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation was presented through the Office of the Deputy Governor by the CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel Okoh, who was represented by the association’s Vice President, Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya.
Archbishop Okoh expressed deep sorrow over the scale of devastation caused by the flood and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
“We share in your pain and stand in solidarity with all who were affected by this tragedy,” he said.
“This tragic incident is a reminder of our collective responsibility to support one another in times of distress.”
He described the donation as a demonstration of love and compassion towards those directly affected, adding that CAN would continue to lift Niger State in prayers, quoting Psalm 46:1:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the Deputy Governor, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Barrister Mairo Mohammed Mann, commended CAN for the gesture and assured that the items would be delivered to the intended beneficiaries.
Barrister Mann also disclosed that the state government has redeemed its pledge of ₦1 billion to support the flood victims, with each affected household expected to receive ₦1 million in relief assistance.
The items donated by CAN include:20 bags of maize,
20 bags of guinea corn, and5 bags of beans
Among dignitaries present at the presentation were the State Vice Chairman of CAN, Rev. Marcus Joshua, who led other state executives; the Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah; and other officials from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
