Tinubu Moves Swiftly as Ganduje Resigns APC Chairmanship, Appoints Dalori as Acting Leader

In a dramatic turn of events within Nigeria’s ruling party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to immediately assume the role of Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

The President also instructed Dalori to urgently convene a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to formally address the leadership vacuum and set the stage for a smooth transition.

The development was confirmed late Friday in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to the statement, Ganduje tendered his resignation to focus on what he described as “urgent and important personal matters.”

“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Dr. Ganduje expressed his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level,” Morka said.

Ganduje assumed leadership of the APC in August 2023, following the resignation of his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

During his tenure, he steered the party through a period marked by strategic defections from opposition parties and critical legal victories that reinforced the party’s legitimacy.

Reflecting on Ganduje’s time in office, Morka highlighted his “unwavering commitment to party unity, democratic values, and electoral competitiveness,” noting that the confidence shown in him by the NEC and National Caucus during their February 2025 meetings attested to his effectiveness as party leader.

Despite the leadership shake-up, Morka assured party faithful that the APC remains firmly focused on delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Tinubu.

“The NWC expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Ganduje for his invaluable contributions and distinguished service to our great party,” he added.

As the APC prepares for a crucial NEC meeting in the coming days, political observers are closely watching how Dalori’s interim leadership could reshape the party’s direction ahead of future electoral contests.
