ENL Consortium, operator of a major cargo terminal at the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, has debunked reports claiming a cargo ship caught fire at its facility on Saturday.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr. Mark Walsh, clarified in a statement on Sunday that what was observed was smoke emission from one of the ship’s hatches,not an actual fire.
“There was absolutely no naked fire on the ship,” Walsh stated.
He explained that ENL’s emergency response team promptly identified the source of the smoke and contained the situation in line with established safety procedures.
“There were no injuries, no damage to cargo, equipment, or terminal infrastructure,” he added.
Walsh stressed ENL Consortium’s unwavering commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and emergency preparedness.
He said the swift and professional handling of the incident underscored the company’s strong safety culture and effective response mechanisms.
Expressing concern over misleading reports, Walsh urged the media and public to seek verified information and refrain from sensationalizing incidents that have been properly managed.
“Port operations at ENL Terminal remain safe, stable, and fully operational,” he assured.
Walsh reaffirmed the consortium’s dedication to protecting personnel and cargo through strict adherence to international safety standards.
